Is Publix Sushi Good and Fresh?
Grocery-bought sushi definitely won’t taste restaurant alike. Publix has created the brand as a sushi seller. So, the quality is comparatively better than other available options from the supermarkets.
The taste is pretty awesome for the price and according to some reviews and reports, it is confirmed that sushi from Publix is fresh as well.
There are also controversies like whether the Publix sushi is premade or not! Is Publix sushi healthy? Honestly, yes! Publix Sushi is a great choice. Even from the reviews of some tourists, you can be assured of the taste and quality from the Publix brand.

If you are still confused about the taste or concerned about freshness, try the Publix sushi Wednesday offer.
Every Wednesday, you can get sushi at $5 for 2 rolls whereas in a restaurant it would cost around $20-$30. And because of such a high demand, the company surely sells fresh sushi on that day of the week.
Is Publix Sushi Gluten Free?
Sushi is a healthy meal to grab. This Japanese dish is prepared with medium grain sushi rice, fish, vegetables, seaweed, and some other stuff.
But the main question can be, is Publix sushi suitable for them who are following a balanced gluten-free diet? Let’s find out the answer.
The first thing you need to do is to learn about the ingredients Publix uses to prepare sushi. It is already known that there is a good variety available. In almost every type, Publix uses imitation crab, which is not gluten-free.
As we all know, sushi rice is made with rice vinegar, water, medium grain rice(both white and brown), sugar, and salt. None of them has gluten primarily. But in some kind of vinegar, gluten is there!
Also, some types of sushi contain tempura. The battered and fried stuffing is known as tempura. When sushi fishes or vegetables are battered and fried, the sushi is no longer gluten-free.
So, celiac patients should not buy sushi from Publix, especially the rainbow roll. According to NHS UK,
“Even if you only eat a small amount of gluten, such as a spoonful of pasta, you may have very unpleasant intestinal symptoms. If you keep eating gluten regularly, you’ll also be at greater risk of developing complications, such as osteoporosis and some types of cancer in later life.”

How Long is Publix Sushi Good For?
Publix Sushi is claimed to be freshly made. So, after purchasing you may keep raw fish sushi in the refrigerator for up to 3 days without a chance of getting worse.
For cooked sushi and vegetarian sushi, the time limit is up to 7 days in the refrigerator.
Note: Never think of keeping the sushi at room temperature and expecting to be in good condition for a couple of hours.
How is Publix Sushi Made?
Publix sushi recipes are also a popular topic of interest to people who wish to learn more about Asian cuisine.
It’s still a mystery how Publix sells fresh sushi for a lower price. Despite many controversies, Publix sushi is still successful. Some probably would complain saying that “Publix sushi lovers haven’t tasted the real sushi”. But my personal opinion says the quality of their sushi is truly awesome.
I luckily have the very special Publix California Roll Recipe. Now I’m going to share how the sushi is made.
- 5 or 6 Imitation Crab
- 1 whole avocado
- ⅓ cup of toasted sesame seed
- ½ portion of a cucumber
- 1 tbsp of lemon juice (needed ½ lemon)
- 4 Nori sheets
- 2 cups of sushi rice (short grain)
- 1 tbsp of salt
- 2 tbsp of sugar
- 2 tbsp of vinegar
- 2 cups of water
Step by Step Direction
Step 1: Wash and swirl the sushi rice in 3 or 4 batches until the water comes clear
Step 2: Add 2 cups of water with rice. Bring to a boil over high heat and uncovered.
Step 3: When boiling, reduce the heat and cover the saucepan. Cook for 15 minutes in low heat.
Step 4: In a small bowl add salt, and sugar along with rice vinegar and heat in a microwave. Then mix up with the rice finely.
Step 5: Prepare avocado and cucumber by peeling, seeding and cutting to the desired sizes.
Step 6: Over the bamboo mat, place ½ nori sheet, shining part at the bottom.
Step 7: Add rice, sesame seeds, cucumber, avocado, and lastly the imitation crab.
Step 8: Start rolling holding the bamboo mat, slowly filling the gap with fingers. Roll into a tight cylinder. Put away the mat and repeat the procedure again.

How much does Publix sushi cost
Publix sushi cost range is between $6 to $15 on regular days. Veggie wrap, avocado rolls, and California rolls are cheaper options. You would easily get them at $6 to $8. Crunchy rolls, rainbow rolls, and tuna rolls can cost nearly $10-$15.
On Wednesday, all types of sushi are available for $5. Well, from TripAdvisor, I’ve learned that the size of sushi becomes smaller on that specific day. Ultimately, the sushi platter isn’t budget-friendly at all and there are no savings.
The main thing is my taste bud won’t match with yours. So, the thing that I’m finding tasty might not be a good part of the table for you. However, as a sushi enthusiast, I would definitely recommend Publix sushi variants. In the US, it’s hard to find a shop or food chain where you can get authentic Japanese flavor of sushi. The items from Publix might not remind you of Japan’s unique food tastes but they are definitely the best brand to rely on when you have cravings for sushi.
