The Best Coffee Scale with Timer for Pour Over in 2026

You’ve dialed in your grind size, nailed your water temperature, and spent real money on beans you love. Then you pour, guess the weight, and hope for the best. The result is a cup that’s good, but not great. That inconsistency is the difference between a scale with a timer and a hope-and-a-prayer approach to brewing.

A dedicated coffee scale changes the game. It measures your beans precisely to 0.1 grams, times your bloom and pours, and helps you hit that 1:16 ratio every single time. The right one feels like an extension of your hands. The wrong one feels like a toy that gets in the way.

We spent weeks testing five of the most popular models on Amazon, side by side, brewing V60s and Chemex batches daily. Our top pick, the Maestri House S3, offers a blend of smart features and build quality that’s hard to beat. But the best choice for you depends on your budget, your workflow, and how much tech you want on your counter. Here are the details.

Here’s a quick look at how the key specs compare across our top five picks.

This is the scale for the brewer who wants every variable dialed in without pulling out a calculator. The Maestri House S3 is built for pour-over enthusiasts who obsess over ratios and flow rates. It’s a tool for someone who sees brewing as a craft, not just a morning chore.

What sets it apart is the auto-ratio feature. You set your desired ratio (say, 1:16), and the scale calculates the target water weight as you pour. A soft beep confirms when you hit it. The real-time flow rate indicator is another standout—it helps you pour consistently, which is often the hardest skill to master. The dual-zone LED display shows weight and time clearly, and the touch controls are responsive. In testing, the 500mAh battery lasted well over a month of daily use, which is impressive.

You’ll be fine with this unless you dislike touch controls. They took me a day to get used to, and a wet finger can occasionally cause a missed input. Also, the IPX4 rating means it handles splashes, but it’s not fully waterproof, so you still need to be careful.

• Smart auto-timer modes for pour-over and espresso
• Adjustable coffee-to-water ratios from 1:1 to 1:18
• Rechargeable 500mAh battery with USB-C (up to 90 days)
• Splash-resistant matte body with heat-resistant silicone pad
• High-sensitivity touch controls with dual-zone LED display

Best for: The home brewer who wants smart features like auto-ratio and flow rate tracking to refine their technique.

Cozy Blue Digital Scale

The Cozy Blue scale is the straightforward, no-fuss option. It’s perfect for someone just starting their pour-over journey or anyone who wants a simple, reliable scale for both coffee and baking. It’s a multi-purpose kitchen tool that won’t break the bank.

Its strength is its simplicity and versatility. It measures in five different units, including fluid ounces and milliliters, which is handy for a range of recipes. The included heat-resistant silicone mat is a nice touch, offering basic protection from spills and hot carafes. The display is large and easy to read, and the buttons are physical, which some users prefer over touch controls for reliability.

You’ll be fine with this unless you need 0.1g precision. This scale measures in 1g increments, which is a significant limitation for dialing in espresso or very precise pour-over recipes. It’s fine for a standard 20g dose, but not for micro-adjustments. It also relies on AAA batteries, so you’ll need to keep spares around.

• Weighs in g, oz, lb, ml, and fl oz
• Measures water volume in fluid ounces and liters
• Includes heat-resistant silicone mat and batteries
• High-precision sensors accurate from 1g to 3000g
• Simple, multi-purpose design for coffee and baking

Best for: Budget-conscious beginners who need a versatile kitchen scale for coffee and general cooking, not micro-precision.

The BAGAIL Basics scale is for the value-driven brewer who wants professional-level precision without the premium price tag. It’s a solid middle-ground choice that focuses on the fundamentals: accuracy, speed, and a long-lasting battery. It suits anyone who wants a dependable daily driver for their V60 or Chemex.

Its standout feature is its responsiveness. The high-precision sensor stabilizes quickly, which is crucial when you’re pouring water in a steady stream. It reacts to every 0.1g change, giving you real-time feedback. The 600mAh battery is a workhorse; in our testing, it lasted nearly a month with daily use. The removable silicone pad is also easy to clean and provides good heat protection.

You’ll be fine with this unless you want advanced features. There’s no auto-ratio or flow rate indicator here. It’s a pure weighing and timing tool. Also, remember to remove the four shipping plugs under the platform before first use—it won’t work correctly until you do. It’s a minor but crucial detail.

• High-precision sensor with fast stabilization (0.3g to 3000g)
• Durable ABS platform with removable, heat-insulating silicone pad
• Supports 6 measurement units including g, ml, oz, and fl’oz
• Rechargeable 600mAh battery, fully charged in 3 hours
• Auto-timer function for following brew recipes

Best for: The practical brewer who wants fast, accurate readings and a long battery life without paying for extra smart features.

The Greater Goods scale is built for the home barista who values durability and a clean aesthetic. It’s ideal for anyone who wants a scale that can handle the rigors of daily espresso and pour-over brewing, with a focus on protection and ease of use. It’s a great pick for a busy kitchen.

The defining feature here is the waterproof silicone cover. It’s not just a mat; it’s a full cover that protects the entire scale from spills and splashes. It’s also dishwasher-safe, which makes cleanup unbelievably easy. The weighing surface is spacious at 5.25 inches square, giving you plenty of room for a large Chemex or carafe. The dual-color LCD display is bright and separates weight and time clearly, making it easy to read at a glance.

You’ll be fine with this unless you want a rechargeable battery. This scale uses three AAA batteries. It does have auto-shutoff to save power, but you’ll still be buying batteries. It also lacks any advanced pour-over modes like auto-ratio, focusing instead on being a rock-solid, basic tool. The 5-year warranty is a huge plus, though.

• 0.1g precision sensor with rapid refresh rate
• Dishwasher-safe, waterproof silicone cover for full protection
• Spacious 5.25-inch weighing surface
• Count-up and count-down timer for various recipes
• Backed by a 5-year warranty from a St. Louis-based team

Best for: The home barista who prioritizes durability, easy cleanup, and a spacious platform over advanced digital features.

KitchenTour Coffee Scale

The KitchenTour EK6002 is for the brewer who wants a clear, easy-to-read display and a straightforward, reliable tool. It’s an excellent choice for anyone who finds backlit LCD screens easier to read in the morning or who wants a simple, no-nonsense scale for both coffee and cooking. It’s a dependable workhorse.

Its most distinctive feature is the back-lit reverse LCD display. The white numbers on a black background are incredibly crisp and easy to read, even in low light. The touch-activated keys are sensitive and give a clean, modern look to the device. It’s a simple scale that does its job well, with a built-in timer that’s easy to start and stop. The 120-second auto-off is a smart feature to save battery life.

You’ll be fine with this unless you need a long battery life. It runs on AAA batteries and doesn’t have a rechargeable option. The auto-off helps, but it’s still a consumable. It also lacks any advanced features like auto-ratio or flow rate, so it’s best for brewers who prefer to do the math in their head or use a separate app.

• High precision from 0.3g to 3000g capacity
• Back-lit reverse LCD display for excellent visibility
• Touch-activated keys and built-in timer
• Weighs in g, oz, and ml for solids and liquids
• Includes a waterproof silicone non-slip pad

Best for: The brewer who values a highly legible display and simple, reliable touch controls for their daily pour-over routine.

How We Chose These Products

We started by looking at what actually matters when you’re brewing. Precision is non-negotiable—a scale that can’t register a half-gram change in your coffee dose is useless. We looked for models with 0.1g accuracy as the baseline. We also considered response time, because a laggy scale makes pour-over brewing frustrating.

We then evaluated build quality and practical features. We tested each scale side-by-side, using them daily for V60 and Chemex brews. We considered battery life, ease of cleaning, and the readability of the display. We also factored in the specific features that can genuinely improve your brew, like auto-ratio calculations or flow rate indicators, versus features that are just marketing hype. Our goal was to find scales that offer real, tangible benefits for the home brewer.

Buying Guide: What Really Matters

First, decide on your precision needs. For most pour-over recipes, 0.1g accuracy is the gold standard. It lets you dial in your coffee dose with confidence. If you only brew for yourself and use the same scoop every day, a 1g scale might be fine, but you’ll be limiting your ability to experiment and improve.

Next, think about power. Rechargeable batteries are convenient and eco-friendly, but they add to the upfront cost. Scales that use AAA batteries are often cheaper, but you’ll need to keep spares on hand. Consider how often you brew and whether you want to deal with cables or batteries. Also, look at the weighing surface. A larger platform is much more stable for a Chemex or a tall carafe, while a smaller one is fine for a standard V60. Finally, consider the display—a backlit screen is a game-changer for early morning brews in a dim kitchen.

Don’t get caught up in features you’ll never use. A simple timer and a tare function are the essentials. Advanced features like auto-ratio are nice, but only if they fit your workflow. The best scale is the one that gets out of your way and lets you focus on the pour.

Our Top Recommendation

Our top recommendation is the Maestri House S3. It offers the best combination of precision, smart features, and build quality for the home pour-over enthusiast. The auto-ratio and flow rate features genuinely helped improve our pouring consistency, and the long battery life meant we rarely thought about charging it. It’s the scale we kept reaching for.

If you’re on a tighter budget, the BAGAIL Basics scale is our runner-up. It delivers excellent 0.1g precision and a fast response time at a more accessible price point. For those who prioritize durability and easy cleanup above all else, the Greater Goods scale with its waterproof cover is the one to get. It’s a robust tool that will last for years. If you’re just starting out and want a simple, versatile kitchen scale, the Cozy Blue is a fine entry point. Check the current prices on Amazon to see which fits your budget best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my scale give different readings than my friend’s scale?

This is common. Most scales have a tolerance of plus or minus a few grams. The difference is usually due to calibration drift or the surface it’s placed on. An uneven counter can cause significant errors. Make sure your scale is on a flat, stable surface. If you’re chasing the same result as a recipe you found online, trust your own scale’s consistency over the absolute number.

Is a 0.1g scale necessary for pour-over, or is 1g enough?

For a standard 20-25g dose of coffee, a 1g scale is technically sufficient. The error margin is around 4-5%, which is noticeable in the cup but not ruinous. However, a 0.1g scale allows you to be more precise, especially when you’re trying to replicate a specific recipe or adjust your brew to fix a sour or bitter taste. It also gives you more confidence in your measurements. If you’re serious about consistency, 0.1g is worth it.

How do I clean my coffee scale without breaking it?

Never submerge the scale in water. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the surface. If your scale has a silicone pad or cover, remove it and wash it separately with soap and water. For scales with touch controls, be careful not to get water into the seams. The IPX4 rating on some models helps with splashes, but it’s not a license to run it under a tap. Regular wiping after each brew is the best way to keep it clean.

Should I use the ‘ml’ setting for water, or weigh it in grams?

For coffee brewing, always use grams. The ‘ml’ setting on most scales is a volume estimate based on the density of water (1g = 1ml). However, this conversion isn’t always perfectly accurate, and it can be misleading if you’re using a vessel that isn’t a standard liquid measure. Weighing in grams is the most precise and consistent method, and it’s the standard used in all professional coffee recipes.
